A Shared Journey To Financial Agency

Hey there! I want to welcome you to what I hope will be a community of people from different backgrounds who share the same goal: to achieve “financial agency”. In short, I want to help you feel more confident about your ability to control, manage and leverage your financial life. I want you to have agency over your finances, and feel comfortable making decisions that are your own and not the product of a bunch of accepted norms and rules that we have heard over the course of our lives. What those norms and rules lack are context, and context is essential before making any financial decision.

Now before I go any further, here is a little about me. I am a recovering attorney who just quit my job and am currently taking a sabbatical. I spent almost 7 years on Wall Street, first working at a large law firm for 2 years before going in-house at a digital asset firm. What is a digital asset firm? It just means that I worked in the crypto industry, but “digital asset firm” sounds a bit more buttoned up. Once I started my sabbatical, I found myself revisiting my core principles and beliefs, and that is what led me to starting this newsletter.

  • My Foundational Belief - Everyone deserves the freedom to pursue and to live life with intentionality. There is no one path for everyone, but each person deserves the freedom to choose what path is right for them.

  • The Foundational Problem - Our society as presently constructed is not conducive to living one’s life freely. A 9-5 job, while an important stepping stone, will rarely pay you enough by itself give you the freedom to live the life you want to live. Moreover, anyone who is 40 or younger is probably not going to be able to take advantage of social security or a pension plan, which means it is essential now more than ever to take control of your financial future.

  • Potential Solution - Seize your financial agency. Invest your time and money so that you can one day be free to pursue happiness (whatever that means to you).

  • How I can help - I want to share the tools I have learned over the years that I have found useful in my own path towards financial agency, so that you can one day live a more financially intentional life.

I promise no expected returns or an early retirement. The only thing I promise is that you will be a little smarter and more comfortable managing your financial lives each week. I’ll start with sharing some of my experiences that helped me get to a position where I felt comfortable taking a sabbatical from my job. None of these include meme stock trading or dogecoin sales; rather it was the result of a thought process and framework I worked on for the better part of 7 years. I will share that framework with you here. Then I will explore new topics each week that either I come up with or that are suggested by readers who might be interested in something specific. Look out for a new post from me every Friday.

I want this to be a conversation, and I hope to learn as much from you all as you all hopefully learn from me. If you have any suggestions, comments, or just want to chat, please email me at [email protected] (probably the worst email address ever, but it was all I could come up with). If you find this newsletter helpful, please feel free to share with your friends and family. If you don’t find it helpful, please email me with any suggestions you have to make it better. I appreciate your understanding as I navigate the world of content creation (this is all new to me, so I am sure there will be some funny bumps along the way). Thanks for reading, I’m looking forward to going on this journey with you!
